NEWS - OCT/NOV 2008

Featured as a dinner guest on BBC Radio: South Yorkshire on the Paulette Edwards' Show on November 8, 2008, we discussed our recent time in Liberia and my West African Portrait Series, The Human Right.

The National Open Art Competition is a national showcase of contemporary art curated by Professor Maurice Cockrill RA, Richard Cork, and Gavin Turk. Shortlisted from over 1200 artists, you'll find a piece from my West African Portrait Series. The show runs daily for two weeks at the Chichester Festival Theatre (Oaklands Park, Chichester, PO19 6AP, UK) from November 8 – 22, 2008.

Opening Saturday, October 4th is Paint Landscape Photo, an exhibition of works by four artists working across diverse mediums to describe the physical and non-literal landscape. It is my first show at Jacana Gallery (2435 Granville Street, Vancouver, Canada) and runs from October 4-26, 2008. The Opening Reception is October 4, 2008, 2-4pm. More information at www.jacanagallery.com.

The Vancouver Friends for Life Society works with individuals living with life-threatening illnesses. I have contributed one piece to the 15th Annual Art for Life Gala Dinner and Art Auction, taking place November 15, 2008 at the Rocky Mountaineer Station (1756 Cottrell Street, Vancouver, Canada). Another option is the Sweet Obsessions Dessert Reception (which I highly recommend). For tickets: 604.682.5992 ext. 4 and for details: www.artforlife.net

The Whodunit? OCAD Mystery Art Sale is OCAD's signature annual event, this year on November 19 – 24, 2008. It’s an exhibition of original art by well-known and celebrity artists, OCAD faculty, alumni and students. You won’t know who the artist is until you buy a piece. Every piece measures 5.5 x 7.5 inches and is a set price. Like it - buy it - turn it over and see Whodunit! Try to find mine. It takes place at the Ontario College of Art and Design (100 McCaul Street, Toronto, Canada) at www.ocad.ca.

The Little Art Show has two events in Toronto, Canada, both of which I am part. On November 27th 2008 the Preview and Media Night takes place at the Hangman Gallery (756 Queen Street East) at 5:30pm. On December 6th 2008, The Little Art Show takes place at Mercedes-Benz (761 Dundas Street East) from 7 - 11pm. www.artistsnetworkdofriverdale.com

OTHER NEWS:
I have just returned from volunteering a year in Africa (Malawi, Liberia, and Morocco). Most of the time was spent in war-torn Liberia where I documented lives in a series of portraits. These will soon be on this site.
